Stan & Pam Rubin, Jewish Builder Award

stanpam.jpg

The Jewish Builder Award goes to Stan and Pam Rubin. Stan has taken his artistic talents far beyond the canvas and home design to create a one-of-a-kind functional Chabad House.

Rubin's love of design and construction began in his early childhood while attending Jewish summer camps. Rubin enjoyed the process and loved seeing the fruits of his labor in a finished project. There is no better feeling than admiring your own work.

Taking as many woodworking and art classes as he could during grade school and even college, Rubin eventually graduated from CSULB with a degree in Art & Design. he has been a Graphic Designer for 30 years and never lost his interest of working in 3 dimensions. He spent many years designing everything from bank graphics, in store displays for Warner Bros. Studio Stores to toy packaging and many many logos.

"My love of the process continued. I have remodeled all the houses I have lived in. With our current home, we set out to make it different than all the other houses in the neighborhood, it was featured in Orange Coast Magazine.

I grew up going to the afternoon Hebrew School at the Hebrew Academy in Long Beach. I was always involved in Jewish Youth Groups and AZA (B’nai Brith Youth Organization) This is where I met my beautiful wife Pam. We have been married for 28 years and have 2 amazing children. Our son Miles works in Wilderness Therapy helping troubled youth learn life skills. Our daughter Tamar will be a freshman at Pace University in NYC studying acting in their International Performance Ensemble major.

I met Rabbi and Bluma Marcus when Tamar started Hebrew High School. Tamar would go on an on about how much she loved Bluma and the Rabbi. After getting to know the Marcus family, I completely understood how Tamar felt about them. It is because of their kindness and willingness to give back to the community that makes others want to do the same.

It has been a long process transforming the shul into something “different than all other shuls.” For me, it has been physical and emotional therapy. After going through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation during the construction process there was no better medicine than creating and giving back to the community (and of course admiring the work.)"
