Cheryl Horowitz, Mentsch of the Year Award

Cheryl Horowitz has been a health information systems professional for more than forty years. After a 27 year career at Siemens Health as Senior Principal Consultant she retired for two days, Saturday and Sunday! Returning that Monday to the same desk she had occupied at UCI Medical Center but now as an employee. Cheryl has been Business Systems Architect at UCI Medical Center for 8 years. Currently she is involved in a massive joint project with UCSD to implement EPIC software across both facilities.

Having been raised in greater Cincinnati, the consulting is what brought her to southern California in the mid-80s. Consulting and travel typically go hand in hand. Cheryl, always a shul goer, became involved with various synagogues and activities locally, when travel required weekend stays. By the late 80’s Siemens transferred Cheryl to Southern California.

Since the early 90s she has been involved with Chabad in Long Beach and Los Alamitos, and other area Chabad organizations. In 2001 at Chabad of Los Alamitos very good friends arranged that a certain gentleman should attend the Nittel Nacht game night festivities, one Kalman Horowitz!  The rest is history. Cheryl and Kalman recently celebrated their 15th anniversary. Kalman is a recently retired Electrical Engineer, who is now studying for rabbinic ordination, which Cheryl supports both philosophically and financially.  Cheryl is a step-mom to four a shviger to two and a Bubby to five! These are the most important “achievements”.
